TACTILE WORKSHOPS
Royal College of Art
2005 - ongoing
Click HERE to watch Tactile Workshop, 10th Feb 2009

The participants in this workshop had the opportunity first to feel and study (through touch and drawing) the tactile properties of various objects and materials, while exploring the links between the visual and tactile imaginations, as well as memories and associations created by the experience.
"As an art form touch is a sense without any defined convention. It has the advantage of not lending itself solely to aesthetical purpose. That is why touch can bring into our consciousness a great amount of authentical material." Jan Svankmajer
The next tactile workshop is scheduled for Thursday 21st May.

Children's Animation Workshops

The aim of these workshops is to introduce children to the art of animation and its magic.
From looking at the earliest animation devices, such as zoetropes, the children will understand the principles of animation and apply these to making their own animated scenes, using the latest technology. We also work with paper, clay and natural materials such as leaves, cones and pebbles, bringing inanimate materials to life.
The children will learn to think in sequence, exploring how each image relates to the previous and to the following, and how this sequence can tell a story. We begin with a simple narrative, to which they are encouragedto contribute their own ideas and experiences.
The children will work in a team towards a shared goal - an animated short film that incorporates their own handmade drawings and objects, sound effects, voices and storytelling. At the end of the course, each child receives a dvd of their animated film to keep.
Small groups encouraged (maximum 6 children).
Private tuition also available.
Suitable for five year olds and upwards.
Previous classes have been held at Malorees Infant School, Christchurch Avenue,
Queens Park, London, NW6.
